The CCF provides a disciplined framework within which cadets can further their learning values by developing their character, resourcefulness, and adaptability, as well as the personal skills associated with leadership, problem-solving and teamwork. Through a combination of adventurous and military training, we aim to promote responsibility, self-reliance, and perseverance.
These qualities are instilled within the cadets on a daily basis and not just on the days they are in uniform. A strong relationship is built between those cadets and staff involved in CCF as the cadets are taken out of the school learning environment and participate in a very different learning experience. They master new skills and see a more disciplined and regimented way of doing things.
Cadets work towards proficiency awards based on an Army syllabus and visit active military establishments; they also have the opportunity to attend a variety of adventurous training courses with the Armed Forces both in the UK and abroad. Within the School staff we are able to organise adventurous activities including, kayaking, canoeing, target shooting, climbing, trekking, and orienteering.
While the CCF is not a recruiting organisation, it does give an insight into Service life. More importantly, however, we believe that the self-confidence, self-discipline and teamwork required in the Services are of equal value in civilian life, whatever careers our pupils pursue, and above all we aim to help them develop these qualities in an enjoyable and challenging fashion.
A typical year for a cadet would involve being on parade for training from 15:15-17:15hrs on the parade nights. These training nights will consist of military training working towards their star awards, learning: Drill, Fieldcraft, First Aid, Map and Compass, Shooting and Skill at Arms, attending a Central Camp for 1 week and several weekend camps both at Military establishments within the UK.
All cadets will get involved with Fundraising and work within the community.
We recruit students all year round and from year 8 to 11. If you have any questions or would like to join the Cadet force, please contact the following:
