14 Nov RSA8 Launch
Last month we launched the RSA8 programme for the 6th year with a new set of Year 8 students. Students from across the RSA Family of Academies came to RSA Academy in Tipton to gain an insight into leadership and and learn more about Social Action. Last year a great video was created about RSA8 – watch that here.
Our guest speaker for the event was Jo Goodman, Senior Partnership Officer for Aspire to HE at the University of Wolverhampton and Governor at RSA Academy, Tipton. Jo gave an insight into her role and how she became a leader through social action despite facing many challenges.
With Arvind Batra and Hannah Breeze from RSA Academies, students had the opportunity to explore leadership, thinking about inspirational leaders and how their influence could reform society. Students were encouraged to learn about Youth Social Action, and how as young people themselves, they are able to make a positive difference to others or the environment.
According to #iwill campaign, a campaign designed to promote youth social action, there are many benefits, both to society and young people themselves, when young people take part in high quality social action, everyone benefits:
- Organisations benefit from young people’s energy, ideas and capacity to create positive change. They gain a different perspective that can shift their way of thinking and open up new ways of working.
- Communities benefit when young people feel valued, engaged and involved. It can create a greater sense of community and boost social cohesion and integration.
- Young people develop their character and confidence. They experience higher levels of wellbeing that can help improve their mental resilience. They also develop vital skills and networks that can support future employment.
Next week, during #iwill week, our RSA8 students will be visiting Ipsley RSA Academy to take part in a ‘Confident Communication’ masterclass and then onto Holyhead School and to the University of Warwick respectively, in order to complete their Leadership Training.
Well done to the 12 students representing us, they will one day become great leaders!
