Assessment (Reports)

March 3, 2011 in by admin

Dear Parents and Guardians,

From Term 1 2011, there will be small changes on how we provide feedback on your child’s progress, in our termly ‘Reports’.

As you are already aware, these ‘Progress Reports’ are no longer printed on paper, but are available via any browser, from a computer or a mobile phone. You simply connect to the ‘E-Portal’ link on our website, and use your own access password to read your child’s ‘Report.’  Full information on how to do this electronically is available at each ‘Progress Day’ from the IT Team.

When you open your first ‘Progress Report’ of 2011, however, you will notice that we are no longer giving percentage scores against the ‘Learning Behaviours’ of Application, Adaptability, Cooperation and Evaluation.  Although these are still important skills that enable children to improve their capacity to learn, we are not reporting on these as individual items.

Instead, staff will be using terms we have developed within ‘Opening Minds,’ across the entire Academy.

These terms describe learners as:

Advanced and Autonomous    (AA)

Advanced   (A)

Strong   (S)

Regular   (R)

Guided   (G)

The highest degree of response is called ‘Autonomous’ because that indicates that a student is highly independent in their learning.

Likewise, the phrase ‘Guided’ indicates that a student still needs a lot of adult help and support to learn.

Staff choose these levels by consulting a set of agreed sentences that describe your child’s progress in all the key competences that the Academy nurtures. We are hoping to make these descriptors available to you over time, electronically, to provide you with even more detail.

For the moment please understand that the descriptors contain reference to how a child ‘applies’ themselves to their work; how ‘cooperative’ they are; and how they ‘evaluate’ and ‘adapt’ to their learning.

Every subject will now present feedback on a specific competence, using the levels described above.

There are no other changes to the style of the Reports.
