BTEC Engineering trip to Deritend
July 2, 2012 in Student News by humpage.j
On the 27th June 20 RSA Academy students went on a factory tour to Deritend to talk with engineers and managers about engineering and apprenticeships. We were split into 3 groups, each group had a tour of the factory by Deritend managers. They told us about the jobs and work they do at the factory. The other activities included some practical games and a demonstration led by two of the apprentices. The first activity was a team game which was a matching activity that got us thinking about all the different sectors that engineering covers.

The second activity was a puzzle game, we had to see how quickly we could assemble something. Arandeep Sodhi was the fastest and even managed it blindfolded! At the end we had a discussion about careers in engineering and the opportunities a career in engineering would give.

We had a really good day and we took a lot of knowledge away with us. It was very useful because it gave us lots of information and made some of us think about possibly working for Deritend in the future.
