Admission Priorities.

  1. Students who have the academy named and agreed as part of a *Statement of Special Educational Needs or who are in Public Care.
  2. Students whose siblings (brother, sister, stepbrother and stepsister) currently attend the school and will continue to do so at the date of admission. Please note that this does not apply if the sibling is in Post-16 provision at the Academy.
  3. Students on the basis of proximity to the Academy using straight line measurement from the main entrance of the Academy to the child’s home.

The RSA Academy is an independent, state funded school which has an agreed admission limit of 180 per year for admission into year 7. Where the Academy receives more applications for year 7 than it has places available the criteria listed above will apply.

Note * Children with a statement of Special Educational Needs which names the RSA Academy will be offered a place above all other applicants, except in cases where the Academy cannot meet the specific special educational needs and which would either be incompatible with the provision of efficient education for other children, including the children with whom he or she would be educated, or an efficient use of resources.

Application Process

The RSA Academy will comply with the national co-ordinated admissions scheme for Sandwell which requires all parents to complete a preference form provided by the LA. In completing this form, the RSA Academy must be listed as one of the preferences on the LA form.

Late Applications

Late applications will be dealt with according to the Local Authority coordinated scheme.

Appeals and Waiting Lists

Those who are offered a place at the RSA Academy will be informed during the first week of March 2011 by the Local Authority. Parents who are not offered a place through this process have a right to appeal against the decision. An Independent Appeals panel will be appointed in accordance with Code of Practice for School Admissions Appeals. If the RSA Academy is oversubscribed, parents will be offered the opportunity to be placed on a waiting list and should vacancies arise within the academic year be offered places in accordance with the published admissions criteria.
